Doyce Mitchem Vaughn of Elma, Washington, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on May 22nd, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Doyce was born on August 10th, 1938 in Clarkrange, Tennessee to parents Hewey Vaughn and Octa Ivene (Welch) Vaughn. On May 5th, 1962, he married his sweetheart, Marilyn, at the Episcopal Church in Elma. They celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage in 2024. Doyce worked at various jobs over the years, building swimming pools, airplane hangars, and pole barns before working at Simpson's Timber Company in McCleary and retiring after 29 years in the business. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Elma as well as The Eagles Club. He loved going to garage sales and auctions and just being outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his beloved family and friends, whom he enjoyed having over to his home to play cards or meet up with at the casino for lunch and Keno. He was a quiet man who always said, "You learn more by listening!" He was a very loving and caring person who was always there to lend a helping hand and come up with a solution for just about any problem. He will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hewey and Octa Vaughn; as well as his daughter, Tammy Louise Vaughn.
Doyce is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Koch) Vaughn of Elma; Son, David Vaughn; brothers Jim, Steve, and Jack; sisters Betty, Effie, Etta, Lou, Margaret, and Judy; grandchildren Ashley and Kyle; great-grandchildren Karson, Reagan, and Harper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal service will be held on June 4th at 10:30 am at the Elma Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of life and potluck is planned for August 10th at 2:00pm at 468 Mox Chehalis Rd. in Elma.
