Harold (H.J.) Jeffery Wickwire

Harold (H.J.) Jeffery Wickwire was born on July 20, 1973, in McCleary, Washington, and passed away on October 28, 2026. He grew up in Elma, Washington, where family and friends knew him as H.J. or “Hay Wire.”

Harold was a fiercely independent man who lived life on his own terms. He was not one to ask for help, preferring to figure things out for himself and only reaching out when there was no other choice. He had a strong work ethic and began working in the logging industry as a teenager, carrying that hardworking spirit throughout his life.

Harold enjoyed the great outdoors and was happiest doing the things he loved. Whether fishing, hunting, or clam digging, if it involved being outside, that was where you could find H.J. During his school years in Elma, he was also a member of the wrestling team and enjoyed the sport.

Harold never married or had children, but he had meaningful friendships and family relationships that were important to him. One of his closest companions was his beloved dog, “Badger,” who was his best friend. He also shared a lifelong friendship with Jo Ann Bagley and his childhood friend Shannon Chetwood.

Harold is survived by his mother, Karen Meagher, and stepfather, Jace Meagher, both of Olympia; his uncle, Bill Wickwire; aunts Jeanie Lillie and Charlotte Emerson, all of Elma; aunt Alice Bonilla of Mesa, Arizona; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Vern, and his father, Vern.

Harold will be remembered for his independent spirit, hardworking nature, love of the outdoors, and the friendships he held dear. He lived life his own way and leaves behind memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
