Obituary

Irene Nora Wentworth, 93, passed quietly in her sleep on September 24, 2025 at Providence St.
Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. She was born on April 7, 1932 in Tacoma, Washington to
Nora Ethel Waller and Ernest Nathaniel Davis. She spent her early childhood living in Moclips.
Due to wartime concerns, in 1940 the family relocated to a Davis family home in NE Tacoma.

Irene attended grade and middle schools in NE Tacoma and graduated from Federal Way High
School in 1950. She graduated from beautician school and worked as a beautician (hairdresser).
She met Ronald Daniel Wentworth at a dance in 1955. They were married on May 28, 1955, at
the Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church. They lived on South Bank Rd. for 25 years before
developing family land on Bartell Rd in 1980 and living there. Irene resided in the area for 69
years.

Irene and Ron hosted gatherings, especially around the holidays and in the summer, with
Wentworth, Waller, and Davis relatives, friends, and neighbors present. There was always plenty
of good food, good-natured teasing, many tall tales, and laughter during these get-togethers.
While Irene never developed a fondness for cows, she embraced country life as a dairyman's
wife. She refused to learn how to milk a cow as she was convinced she would end up milking
cows daily if she did. There was plenty of other work to do on the farm which she often
delegated to her children as they grew up. She was an avid gardener, growing both food and
flowers; she preserved the food grown in the gardens and orchard; and decorated cakes for
special occasions. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, and solving
word puzzles. The family enjoyed playing board and card games. The children learned how to be
good-natured losers and other life lessons while enjoying family fun. Irene especially loved
spending Thursday mornings playing Mexican Train Dominoes with her friends, Kay, Tiny, Pat,
and Alicia. She was an animal love, she especially loved cats and dogs.
She was a member of Pythian Sisters with her mother, and Aunt Tootie; The Cedarville Ladies
Club; and The Red Hat Society. She was an active mom in the Busy Beavers 4-H club and in Cub
Scouts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald (1923-2007); her brothers,
Wayne Lewis Davis (1929-1954) and Kenneth Ernest Davis (1927-2001); and her son, Arthur
Ernest Wentworth (1959-2021).
She is survived by her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Chris and Jeff Roser of Corpus Christi,
Texas; granddaughter Tynnae Wentworth; close friends Kay Conover of Elma, Washington; Barb
and Leo Shotton of Nine Mile Falls, Washington; Carolyn Messenger of Elma, Washington;
neighbors and close friends, Tom Brown, John Fields, Gary Bower and families; and numerous
first cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a private graveside service. There will be a memorial service on November 1, at 11:00 AM at
Crossroads Church, 3509 Military Rd. E., Tacoma, Washington officiated by her nephew, Rev.
Doug Davis.
