Obituary

James Leon Epler, 65, of Lake Stevens, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025 after a short illness.

Jim joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduating high school in January of 1979. He proudly served 11 years of active duty, dedicating himself to his country with honor. After his military service, he worked in the nursery business and developed a love for gardening. After all the plants were delivered, he moved on to the aerospace industry, most recently working at Boeing where his strong work ethic and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his quick wit, warm heart, and the way he always found a reason to make others laugh. If you knew Jim, you knew how much he loved spending time in nature- whether hiking, gardening, or simply enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. He cherished new experiences and found joy in exploring the world around him. He had a gift for bringing people together through his tales- sometimes wild, often funny, and always told with that unmistakable sparkle in his eye. His stories weren't just entertainment; they were a way of passing down memories, lessons and love. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, strength, and stories will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Epler Sr. and his brother Mark. He is survived by his mother Joann (Donald) Sims of Harriman, TN; wife Sue Epler; daughters Shannon Epler and Teri Herbert; grandchildren Abigayle, Haley, and Conner; sister Sheryl (Michael) Waggener, his brother Michael and two nieces.
