Obituary

Janet Loretta Opella, 71, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving children. Her departure marked the end of a courageous 26-year battle with breast cancer, during which she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience.

Born on June 8, 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Sylvia Annie Kapecke and Adolph Joseph Opella, Janet spent most of her childhood on a farm near San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Southwest High School in 1971, embarking on a life characterized by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Janet's legacy lives on through her children, Layla Opella, Alex Gartner, and Max Gartner, who were the center of her world. She is also survived by her siblings Raymond Opella, Mary (Opella) Lovings, and Charlie Opella. She has joined her beloved parents and older sister Evelyn in heaven.

Those who knew Janet will forever remember her wonderful sense of humor, her fighting spirit, and most importantly, her devoted love for her children. Her kind and generous nature touched the lives of all who knew her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and caregivers who provided exceptional care throughout her journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause dear to Janet's heart.
