Kenneth Duane "Poggie" Baker, 83, of Tokeland, Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday March 8th, 2024.
Ken was born on June 2nd, 1940 in Taholah, Washington to parents Harry David Baker and Hazel Marie Charley. He attended Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Oregon and received a masters degree from The University of Oregon in Eugene. He was an accomplished athlete in most sports, his favorites being basketball and football. He was the back-up quarterback for the Oregon Ducks in 1962 and 1963. Ken was also a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and had bowled numerous perfect "300" games. In addition, Ken was also an avid golfer, having earned the nickname "Aces" for making a hole-in-one on four occasions.
Ken served in the United States Army for three years before being honorably discharged. He worked as an entrepreneur/businessman and also as a casino shift manager.
Ken is survived by his younger brother, Roland McKenney of Tokeland and his sister, Colleen Dietz, also of Tokeland. He was a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and a valued member of The Shoalwater Bay Indian Nation.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen. Services are being planned and details will be announced as soon as they become available.
