Obituary

When girls are described as being made of "sugar and spice, and everything nice", they
were most certainly describing Patty Beach. Sadly, and very unexpectedly, Patty, aged only
67, went home into the loving arms of Jesus, on March 28th, 2025, surrounded by her
adoring family, due to severe complications to her leukemia treatment.

Patricia Lee (Mayes) Beach was born March 10, 1958, in Seattle, WA. Originally named
Melanie Marie, she was placed with a foster family through Catholic Charities before being
adopted at 3 mos. old by her loving parents Lee and Helen Mayes, who named her Patricia
Lee. She was raised in South Aberdeen, WA, with her older brother, Joseph, until she was 6
years old, and then the family moved to Ocean Shores for new opportunities in a brand
new up and coming city. As part of the original pioneering families in Ocean Shores, she
loved her hometown and had many fun and happy memories there, including the big Pat
Boone Golf Classic that her father, Lee, was the director of. She remembered watching all
of the celebrities land at the airport in Ocean Shores, and she and the other children that
were there would have their little autograph books for the Stars to sign. The most
memorable one for Patty was when Lucille Ball landed and she saw her and her bright red
hair get off the airplane, and the I Love Lucy star kindly signed her autograph in Patty's
book. Patty was also appointed to be Pat Boone's daughter's companion whenever they
came to town, and she had fun going to the beach, swimming in the pools, riding horses,
driving go karts, and going on hayrides with her. Patty also talked about Bill Bixby, from the
TV series, My Favorite Martian, visiting in her living room. He was so handsome, and when
he smiled at her, it was the first time she was ever star-struck. Growing up, Patty attended
several schools including St Mary's and Our Lady of Good Help, and later North Beach High
School in Moclips, and Hoquiam High School. She also attended Grays Harbor College. Living
a considerable distance from Hoquiam High School, sometimes when Patty's mom, Helen, was
working and couldn't drive her back into Hoquiam for activities(there wasn't any bus service
out there back then), Patty would drive herself, much to the chagrin of her Driver's Ed teacher,
who would remind her that technically she should NOT be driving herself to Driver's Ed-especially
since she did not have her Driver's license yet. Sorry Mr.Thompson!

On July 24th, 1976, Patty married the love of her life, Miles Beach, in Redland, OR, and the
two of them made their home in Portland, OR. It was often the running joke that Patty only
married Miles for his last name since she had grown up at the beach, but it truly was his
kind and gentle heart that had drawn her to him, and the love they had for each other was
immeasurable. Miles was "her person", her rock, her security, and her calm. There was
also never a lack of affection between the two. Often holding hands and stealing kisses
whenever they could, their love was a beautiful example for their children and anyone else
who was fortunate enough to witness it. In 1977, Miles and Patty welcomed their first child,
a baby girl they named Juliet, after Patty insisted that every time she heard a song with that
name, Juliet would give her a little kick. Later that same year, Patty's husband, Miles, was
hired to work for the City of Ocean Shores, so they packed up their Portland home and headed
back to Patty's beloved hometown, and closer to her own mother, Helen. In 1979, they welcomed a
10lb 7oz baby boy, their son, Lyle, named after their very close friend, Lyle Gene, who had
passed away in an automobile accident shortly before the birth. Patty was a devoted stay at
home wife and mother, who kept an impeccable home. Always cleaning and rearranging, she
loved to care for her family and home. In fact, it was not uncommon for Juliet and Lyle to come
home from school with their rooms completely rearranged or the living room rearranged. She
kept things new and exciting for sure. Patty volunteered for field trips, helping in the classroom
and school library, would be the team mom for her kids' sports teams, amongst many other activities.
When the Cabbage Patch Kid craze happened in the 80s, and it was near impossible to get your
hands on one of the dolls, Patty bought herself a kit and taught herself how to sew and lovingly
tried to recreate one for her daughter. She always did her best for her children in everything.

In 1991, Patty and Miles got their biggest happy surprise when their son, Taylor, was born. After
struggling for months leading up to his birth to come up with a boy name that she
liked, Patty happened to notice the name, Taylor, on a pizza pan on the wall at Dugan's
Pizza and immediately knew that was the one. When Taylor was born, he brought new life
to the family, once again having a sweet baby to raise. Patty, of course, resumed her active
role with Taylor helping with school, cub scouts, sports, band, and making epic Halloween costumes.
Patty was always there to support or lend a hand in any way she could. She loved it.

Patty continued to be a stay-at-home mom until 2008, when she started working for the
North Beach School District as a school cook. Her children would lovingly joke with her
and sing the "Lunch Lady Land" song to her about Sloppy Joes from the famous Saturday
Night Live skit with Adam Sandler and Chris Farley. She first started working at Ocean
Shores Elementary, and then later at Pacific Beach Elementary. She absolutely adored all
"her kids" that she served at her schools. They always brightened her day. The kids,
teachers, staff, and other kind people she worked with held a special place in her heart.

As much as Patty adored her "job" as mother and school cook, the "job" of grandmother
was her absolute favorite. Known as Baba to her grandkids, or affectionately as Bubby,
Bubbles, or The Bubster to her older grandkids, she was a constant presence in all their lives.
She would attend birthday parties, sporting events, school concerts and plays, dance recitals,
baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, graduations, and many more
activities. She lived for it. All of her grandchildren absolutely loved, treasured, and adored her.
And she them. She was so very proud of them all. Baba loved to do fun activities with them such
as sleepovers, s'mores in the backyard, zoo trips, Disney trips, park trips, camping, baking and
decorating fun treats, making fairy gardens in the backyard, arts and crafts, painting pottery,
and the list goes on and on. Coming to Ocean Shores for her older grandchildren has always
been one of their most favorite activities. She would take them to the beach, the pool, the go-karts,
mini golfing, and ice cream at the Peppermint Parlor. When she would come to visit the kids in
Maple Valley, she would always bring treats for the kids, especially M&Ms, and if you were lucky
enough that she stayed in your room overnight, she would leave a crisp $20 bill on your dresser
as payment for a great night sleep and for giving up your room for the night. Baba always made
things fun for all her "grands" and spoiled them rotten. Baba was also known to give the best and
warmest hugs. The kids said you could always feel all the love she had for you radiating out of her.

Patty loved music. It spoke to her soul. She also loved watercolor painting, and was quite
good at it when she could make the time. She loved the ocean, stating that she could never
bear to move away from it. She was always active and had a hard time sitting down. Patty
made friends wherever she went. She would do anything for anyone. If you shared
something with her, it would stay in her heart, and she would pray for you. She was so
compassionate, and genuinely loved everyone. Patty touched so many people-even if only
meeting her one time. She was such a bright light in so many people's lives. Patty, Mom,
Baba, is so loved, and will be sorely missed every day so very, very much.

Patty is survived by her husband, Miles Beach, of Ocean Shores; daughter, Juliet (Chris) Mazza
of Maple Valley, and their children, Gavin, Carson, Gianna, and Bianca; son, Lyle (Gretchen) Beach
of North Bend; son, Taylor (Nicole) Beach of Ocean Shores and their children, Cadence, Liam, and
Archer; her brother, Joseph (Nancy) Mayes of Shelton; as well as many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Lee Mayes, and her grandson, Jaden.
