Shawn passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, due to a head injury from a fall in his home. Shawn was born and raised in Seattle and attended schools in Seattle and Bellevue. He attended college at Edmonds Community College and the University of Alaska.
As a child, Shawn was always on the go. He was mischievous and always busy. In school, he was bored because everything came too easily. Playing sports seemed to come natural to him as well. He was a gifted child. After graduating, Shawn moved to Alaska and worked on fishing boats.
While living in Alaska, Shawn started his cooking career. One of his favorite memories was flying into Canada to various fishing resorts where he cooked for many famous people. He also loved working in Sun Valley, Idaho, and various seafood restaurants in Seattle. Shawn would eventually open up his own catering business called Seattles Best Catering. In 2018 he and his close friend, Kim Larson, decided to move to Westport where they purchased a B&B and proceeded to create one of the best seafood restaurants on the coast called The Lighthouse Bistro. Shawn was a perfectionist and always gave 110% for his customers. He was highly respected for his talents as a chef and was a loyal, caring friend who cherished his family.
Shawn's passions and hobbies included fishing, sports, catering food at Seahawks games, competing in pool tournaments, web designing, and of course being a gourmet seafood chef. Another one of Shawn's special characteristics was his incredible memory. He had the ability to recite events, statistics, and even dates back to his childhood years.
Shawn leaves behind a daughter Sierra Spencer and a granddaughter Jocelyn from Florida; a son Joshua from Juneau, AK; parents Lyn Morgan of Twin Falls, ID; Leonard Calkins of Mountlake Terrace, WA; siblings Shane Calkins, Cindy Brown and David Calkins and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
