Wishkah Valley resident, Shirley Ann Coady, passed away peacefully at Channel Point Village on January 25, 2026. She was 88 years old.
Shirley was born on February 12, 1937, in Hastings, Nebraska, to parents Robert Cole and Helen (Krueger) Cole. When Shirley was young, she and her family moved from Blue Hill, Nebraska, to Aberdeen. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1955 and later that same year, she married Denny Walton Coady in Aberdeen. Shirley spent the next 25 years taking care of the family home and raising their four children, Roy, Carol, Brenda, and Kathy. Then in 1980, she worked for a short period of time at the Grays Harbor Health and Rehab before moving on to become the assistant cook at the Wishkah Valley School from 1984 through 1998. Shirley was affectionately known as "Grandma Shirl" to the school children, and even had the pleasure of serving their children later on. She enjoyed many hobbies including needlework and playing pinochle and cribbage with her family and friends. Shirley was also musically talented. She bought a cello and began taking lessons, playing the same cello her entire life.
Shirley is survived by her son Roy (and wife, Carol) Coady of Wishkah Valley; daughters Carol (and husband, Dennis) White and Brenda (and husband, Ken) Johnson, all of Wishkah Valley; brother Don (and wife, Jackie) Cole of Montesano; sister Julie Kosoff of Spokane; son in-law Barry McLaughlin of Rochester; and nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, whom she adored.
She is preceded in death by her husband Denny Coady; parents Robert and Helen Cole; daughter Kathy McLaughlin; brother Bob Cole; and sister Marian Gore.
Shirley is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
