Obituary

Stephen "Steve" Lee Galloway, passed away on June 3, 2026, in Montesano, Washington. Born on November 13, 1952, in American Falls, Idaho, Steve’s journey through life was marked by a curious mind and a heart deeply devoted to his family.

Steve was a graduate of Marsh Valley High School, Class of 1971, and furthered his studies at Idaho State University, earning multiple bachelor's and master's degrees. From a young age, he worked alongside his father on the family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. While putting himself through school, he worked welding at the Pacific Fruit Express (PFE) railroad. His career as a school psychologist and director took him throughout Nevada. Later in life, his career took him to Washington state, where he loved the climate. Those who knew him recall not only his dedication but also his genuine kindness and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed.

Steve found joy in adding to his antique collection, where he delighted in uncovering hidden treasures. Full of knowledge and possessing a lifelong love of learning, Steve was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand -and a Diet Coke in the other- expanding his understanding of history, art, and various cultures. He had a deep appreciation for art and creativity, which enriched his life in countless ways. His love for history was a constant companion, as was his eagerness to travel and explore new places. Whether tearing up trails on a four-wheeler or relaxing with dinner and a movie, his cravings for both high-adrenaline adventure and easy entertainment were fully satisfied. When younger, he expressed his creativity through music, playing the bass guitar with heartfelt enthusiasm. Above all, Steve cherished the moments spent with his children and grandchildren, finding his greatest happiness in their company.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harvey and Marie Galloway, and his son Michael Galloway, whose memories he carried with him always.

He leaves behind a cherished family who mourns his passing yet celebrates his legacy. Steve is survived by his children, Brian Galloway, Nicole (Eric) Nestler, Heidi (Charles Jr.) Sholes, and Trisha Galloway; and his grandchildren, Jayden Nestler, Broden Nestler, Ashden Nestler, Naliyah Nestler, Charlize Sholes, Corvin Sholes, Cyron Sholes, Alejandro Rivas, Christian Rivas, and Aymeric Rivas— who were a source of immense pride and joy to him, each holding a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brother, Scott Galloway, and his sisters, Melanie Mills and Margaret Olsen.

Steve’s life was built with love, laughter, curiosity, and dedication. Though he has departed from this world, the indelible mark he left on his family, friends, and community will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate to know him.
